Purpose
Aqua Explorer is specialized in biological solutions for treatment and analyses of (waste) water. Extensive R&D facilities and a large knowledge base of microbiological processes have lead to a solution of the Acid Mine Drainage problem.
Description
Aqua Explorer has developed a biological technology, to prevent the formation of Acid Mine Drainage; Clean Mine Water. The basis of the technology is to continuously produce bacteria and inoculate these into the mine or rock, with the right mix of nutrients. The produced bacteria will outperform the bacteria largely responsible for the formation of Acid Mine Drainage, in order to prevent further acidification.
IST (a large engineering company in South Africa ) focuses on systems engineering, based on know-how developed by technology companies. Part of their activities are in the field of engineering solutions for the industry, a.o. for treatment of Acid Mine Drainage. IST has shown great interest in the technology of Aqua Explorer, where IST will use the technology for implementation in their total engineering solution.

The deliverables of Aqua Explorer within Clean Mine Water applications are:
- Production of the special inoculants (bacteria)
- Nutrient-mix and bio-catalyst,
- Engineering packages,
- Reactor internals
- Process control (bio-monitoring tools) and technology services.
